Urban Memory Project by CIU Faculty of Communication

The Lapta-Alsancak-Çamlıbel (LAÇ) Municipality Urban Memory project carried out by Cyprus International University (CIU) Faculty of Communication academics within the scope of the Urban Memory project has been completed.

In addition to the CIU Faculty of Communication Dean Prof. Dr. Aytekin İşman, Vice Dean Assoc. Prof. Dr. Dilan Çiftçi and Department of Radio-Television-Cinema Lecturer Levent Duranlı,  LAÇ Mayor Fırat Ataser and municipality staff Sonuç Zorali also participated in this project. 

Speaking within the scope of the urban memory project, LAÇ Mayor Ataser stated that the project is very large-scale because there are many villages affiliated to their municipality, and noted that the municipality is ready to contribute to the creation of urban memory.
Ataser thanked the CIU Faculty of Communication for their contribution in making this project take off ground, and added he believed that the project in question would contribute greatly to the promotion of the region. 

Ataser emphasized that their aim is to make the region the most beautiful urban area of North Cyprus and said, "We want to keep both the history and cultural heritage of the region alive."

Speaking within the scope of the project, Dean İşman stated that a total of sixty-two people from Lapta, Alsancak, Karşıyaka, Akdeniz, Çamlıbel, Tepebaşı, Hisarköy, Kozanköy and Koruçam were interviewed within the scope of the LAÇ Municipality Urban Memory project and said, “Thanks to these interviews, the memory of the LAÇ Municipality from past to present has been recorded.” 

Stating that short conversations were held with individuals living in the settlements affiliated to LAÇ Municipality, İşman noted that this helped reveal the sixty-year-old memory of the region and the urban memory. LAÇ City Memory project carried out jointly by CIU Faculty of Communication and LAÇ Municipality will be shared with the local people in the gala night.
