The third issue of Bakırdan is published

The third issue of the literature, culture, and arts-oriented e-journal Bakırdan, published by Cyprus International University (CIU) Faculty of Arts and Sciences, Department of Turkish Language and Literature, met its readers.

The Editor of Bakırdan, Asst. Prof. Dr. Mihrican Aylanç mentioned that despite the COVID-19 outbreak all around the world, artistic and academic studies continue, "in addition to publishing our country’s artists and academics, we have also published works from Turkey’s esteemed artists and academics and our students”. It was added that in this issue, the study and research articles on language and literature creations that gave rise to our island in the ‘women and freedom’ file have also been included.

Stating that the visual face of the cover and file was designed by Oğuz Demir, Aylanç noted that Asuman Susam included an introductory letter indicating the necessity of a new language, agreement, and renewal, in addition to being a woman in an environment where hyper-objects such as viruses and climate change threaten freedoms.

Providing information about the articles in the journal, Aylanç continued: “Hande Öğüt approaches tales created with a masculine memory and therefore language in the axis of representation of gender roles. Ferhunde Küçükşen Öner discusses Mihri, our first female painter. Fatoş Silman interprets the tragedy of female characters in the movie “Thelma and Louise”. Hüseyin Köse narrates in the intuitive corridors of the 'other' and 'I' relationship between men and women. Metin Karadağ examines important literary and cultural events, people, who name the streets of Kyrenia. Gürkan Gümüşatam writes about Kutlu Adalı as the representatives of the first layers of dialect on the island. Gülden Sarı evaluates Handi's Cyprus diary.

Aylanç mentioned that in the journal there were the stories of Uğur Demircan, Salamis Ayşegül Şentuğ, Hüseyin Bahca, İlke Ergin and the poems of Levent Karataş, Betül Tarıman, Emel Kaya, Zeki Ali, Tamer Öncül, Aliye Ummanel, Semen Gökel, Tuğçe Tekhanlı, Fatih Yalıner and Ahmet Uçar. There are also contributions of Nafia Akdeniz to the journal with her photographs.

Aylanç also stated that they had an interview with Fatoş Avcısoyu Ruso on her new poetry book and continued “I wish pleasant reading in the healing power of art”. Aylanç said that readers can access the journal from http://www.ciu.edu.tr/files/bakirdan-e-dergi-sayi-3.pdf.
