Joint seminar on “Human Rights” organized by CIU Faculty of Law Students

Cyprus International University (CIU) Faculty of Law, International Law Department students and Girne American University Faculty of Law students, held a joint student seminar on the "Human Rights" theme, within the scope of the 72nd anniversary of the United Nations adoption of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.

A total of 9 students from the CIU Faculty of Law presented at the seminar, which was held online due to Covid-19 measures. Moderating at the seminar were Dr. Erdem Ertürk and Sr. Instr. Çiçek Göçkün Bayramoğlu.

CIU Faculty of Law Dean Prof. Dr. Hasan Tunç, who made the opening speech at the event, noted that the concept of human rights has a great importance both in terms of law and within daily life, and wished success to all the students who were preparing for the seminar.

Discussed at the seminar were the European Convention on Human Rights and Article 14, The Right to Asylum, Economic Justice and Human Rights, The Right to Fair Trial and the Burden of Proof, Disability Rights, Human Rights and Africa, War Crimes and Sexual Violence Against Women, Women in Sierra Leone on Circumcision and Gay Marriages in the Context of Human Rights.

During the question-and-answer section that followed the presentations, an intense participation was observed by both universities, while the participants contributed to the creation of an efficient academic discussion environment, both with their questions and comments.
