CIU Press Release

In line with the news featured in the media in relation to some of our international students receiving positive COVID-19 test results, the need to inform the public has arisen.

On Saturday, one of our students was having symptoms and upon this, a PCR test was performed, and the test result was positive. Subsequently, the TRNC Ministry of Health officials were invited to our university and the entire process that followed was carried out in cooperation with the TRNC Ministry of Health. In this context, all possible contacts were identified, isolated, tested, and in addition, PCR test scans of the majority of our students staying in the university dormitories were also completed.

Following the detection of the first case, all relevant academic and administrative units were informed and as a result of our research, it was determined that none of our colleagues were in any possible contact. Within the scope of measures, all existing measures in the university campus have been maximized and the necessary disinfection processes of all the buildings have been swiftly concluded.

In this context and within the scope of measures to be taken in terms of the effective management of this process, it has been planned for the education at our university to be provided online until 15th March, 2021. Our academic staff will conduct the online classes from their homes during this process. Our administrative staff will also carry out their services online, apart from essential services to be provided, with these services met alternately and sparsely.

At this stage, we would like to inform the public that our university is displaying the necessary sensitivity at the highest level to the subject, and that it is in close cooperation with the TRNC Ministry of Health and other officials of our government, in the protection of all our students and employees.
