CIU increases its laboratories and equipment

Cyprus International University (CIU) continued to grow during the fall semester of the 2020-2021 Academic Year, by renewing and increasing the number of laboratories, machines, devices and equipment in order to provide qualified education for its newly opened programs, in addition to the increasing number of students and existing programs.

With a total of 82 undergraduate and 31 associate degree programs within the 12 Faculties and 8 Schools in CIU, as well as 95 master's and 29 doctoral programs affiliated with the Graduate Education and Research Institute, all aiming to develop well-trained, rational, investigative, questioning, critical thinking graduates that are beneficial to society, have increased the latest technology laboratory and machinery/devices/equipment, in order to realize the processes of the theoretical courses taught in the classrooms.

CIU Faculty of Engineering Faculty Member Assist. Prof. Dr. Ertan Akün, stating that each faculty has differing needs in relation to laboratories and equipment, noted that the latest technology purchases are made in line with the needs determined each year.

Providing information about laboratories and equipment, Akün said, "In the Faculty of Dentistry; Clinic, Preclinic, Phantom laboratories, Operating Room, Consultation Room, Tomography Room and Plaster Room, in the Faculty of Medicine; Full-fledged Anatomy / Dissection laboratory and additional Physiology, Microbiology, Biochemistry laboratories, in the Faculty of Health Sciences, Anatomy, Dialysis, First Aid, Anesthesia, and in the Faculty of Arts and Sciences, Department of Psychology; neuropsychology laboratories provide full services."

Assist. Prof. Dr. Akün stated that the laboratories within the Faculty of Engineering and Faculty of Pharmacy within the structure of Basic Human Sciences, in the Science and Technology Building, also serve for educational purposes, and reminded that the laboratories are also used for research studies. Also giving information about the newly established Engineering Laboratories building, Akün noted that all laboratory needs of the Civil, Mechanical and Petroleum and Natural Gas Engineering Departments are equipped with renewed devices.

Laboratories and equipment provide the opportunity for higher numbers of international publications
Stating that there are internationally renowned devices that perform solid, liquid and gas analysis in the Environmental Engineering laboratories, Akün stated that many studies carried out here enable a large number of international publications.

Finally, Akün talked about the Biotechnology Research Center and informed that CIU students and academicians are conducting research and publishing internationally thanks to this center on cancer, which is a major problem both in the world and in our country.
