CIU hosts 55th MOBBIG

The 55th Architecture Schools Department Chairs Communication Group (MOBBIG) meeting was hosted by Cyprus International University (CIU) Faculty of Fine Arts, Design and Architecture (FFADA). The topics to be discussed focused on “The Future Where Digital Creativity Meets Architecture". The 2-day event was organized to create  a medium of communication among institutions providing architectural education.

Speaking at the event held in the conference hall of CIU Çevik Uraz Center, CIU Rector Prof. Dr. Halil Nadiri stated that digital transformation has also caused significant transformations in the field of education and said, "With digital transformation, higher education has gained more innovative, accessible and effective learning opportunities." Pointing out that digital transformation will also have an exciting impact in the field of architecture, Nadiri thanked everyone who contributed to the organization of the event.

Prof. Dr. Cemil Atakara,  Dean of FFADA, stated that architecture has undergone a significant change with digital evolution adding, "We have to understand the opportunities and challenges brought by digital transformation; shape the future and take responsibility to lead this change." Pointing out that more digital transformation is expected in the field of architecture, Atakara noted that acting together in this process will help shape future successes.

Prof. Dr. Arda İnceoğlu, Vice President of the Council of Deans of the Faculties of Architecture (MİDEKON), gave information about the reports submitted to Council of Higher Education (YÖK) and to Inter-university Board (ÜAK) regarding the quality, minimum conditions and duration of architectural education in the 2021-2023 period, and talked about what needs to be done in this regard regarding the future of architectural education. 

Kozan Uzunoğlu, President of the Chamber of Architects affiliated with the Union of Chambers of Turkish Cypriot Engineers and Architects, also emphasized cooperation in the field of architecture and said, “Effective interdisciplinary cooperation has become inevitable in the healthy and qualified shaping of the built environment. It is at this point that the responsibilities of the architectural profession have increased." 

Assist. Prof. Dr. Sertaç İlter, Chairman of the Department of Architecture of CIU FFADA, noted that their aim in organizing this event was to bring together the leading innovative ideas in the sector and produce more effective solutions on these issues.

Following the opening speeches at the 55th Architecture Schools Department Chairs Communication Group (MOBBİG) meeting, panels were held in two sessions. In the afternoon, workshops, election of new members for the Architectural Accreditation Board (MIAK) and workshop coordination meetings were held. On the second day of the event, the 55th MOBBIG final declaration was prepared and the agenda for the 56th MOBBIG was discussed.
