CIU 2022-2023 Student Council Election Results

The elections for the Student Council which was established to protect the representation rights of our university students, to convey their suggestions to the university administrative bodies, and to contribute to the decisions regarding teaching-learning activities, were completed successfully.

The voting for the department representatives was done electronically, and the results were also announced electronically (Student Information System) and on the website.

Speaking at the opening of the event where the representatives were introduced in the conference hall of CIU Çevik Uraz Center, CIU Rector Prof. Dr. Halil Nadiri stated that everyone elected to the student council assumes a very important strategic responsibility and reminded that the elected student representatives will play an active role in the decision-making mechanism. Noting that the representative elected as the president of the Student Council will also have a seat in the senate and will also attend the Quality Enhancement Board. Nadiri stated that the Faculty Student Representative will be on the Faculty Board while the Department Student Representative will serve on the Department Board.

Social Activities and Student Clubs Coordinator Selen Akün Kalaycı, who provides the coordination of the CIU Student Council and also served as the President of the 2022-2023 Student Council Election Board, said that the Student Council elections were carried out in 3 stages and said, “On November 14th the student representatives of the Departments, Schools, Preparatory School and Institutes were elected. The faculty representatives were elected on November 17th and on November 18th the Council President, Chairman and members of the Supervisory Board were elected.  The 41-member Student Council was thus formed.”

Student Council Election Board Member Assist. Prof. Dr. Osman Emiroğlu stated in his speech at the event that self-governing is one of the most valuable achievements of people in the historical process of humanity, and that the concept of democracy, which is defined as the power to use this will, is a virtue. Emiroğlu also said, “Representing departments, colleges and faculties in these duties will allow us to both experience and internalize democracy.”

Council President Ceren Çeliker also noted that as the Student Council, their primary duty is to convey the students' academic, social and campus life demands to the relevant units, as well as to share the decisions taken with the students.
