CIU Faculty of Engineering Academic Staff Assist. Prof. Dr. Ertan Akün pointed out that oil and natural gas are indisputably one of the most important sources of energy in the world, and went on to say, "Their importance in the current world conjuncture has increased even more today".

Underlining that basically, oil and natural gas affect the policies of all countries across the world, particularly the Eastern Mediterranean, Akün advised, "In such an environment, the engineers who have received extensive training on this subject will be the experts of policy-making units, providing the most accurate and most realistic technical information”.

Assist. Prof. Dr. Akün stated that in the event of incorrect or incomplete information, produced policies will be incorrect, thus the aim of the Petroleum and Natural Gas Engineering Master's program is to train graduates who are specialized in their fields. Emphasizing that the only way this will be made possible is via academic staff who are masters of the subject, Akün went on to state "CIU is a university that withholds the capacity, with its academic staff who have obtained experience within Turkey and the world, and all the necessary related laboratory facilities, to provide this education in the best way possible”.

Asst. Prof. Dr. Akün stated that within the scope of the undergraduate level knowledge that students in this field have acquired, they will have the opportunity to increase their knowledge level in their graduate studies, attaining the qualification sought for experts.
