98th Anniversary of the Great Victory

CIU Faculty of Education Faculty Member Asst. Prof. Dr. Cahit Nuri made a statement for the 30th of August Victory Day reminding that the national liberation effort was launched by Mustafa Kemal Atatürk and his comrades in Samsun in 1919. Also, it was crowned with the Great Offence in Dumlupınar on August 30th, 1922, and he noted that 98th Anniversary of August 30th Victory Day is proudly celebrated this year.

Asst. Prof. Dr. Nuri expressed that the Great Attack was also known as the Commander-in-Chief Pitched Battle because it was carried out under the commander-in-chief of Mustafa Kemal Atatürk. He said, "after the Great Attack was successfully completed, the Greek armies were followed to İzmir; with the liberation of İzmir on September 9th, 1922, Turkish lands were liberated from Greek occupation.“

Recalling that the occupation troops left the borders of the country later, Nuri said that August 30th symbolically represents the day the country's lands were taken back.

The existence of a nation from nothing

"August 30th was celebrated with the name of the Commander in Chief Victory for the first time in Afyon in 1924, and since 1926 it has been celebrated as a Victory Day in Turkey," said Asst. Prof. Dr. Nuri.

He drew attention to the point that besides the victory of tradition was formed from nothing to a nation, it is a continuation of the attention.

"Also, this victory established de facto by the opening of Parliament in 1920, it was also proven that the Republic of Turkey will remain forever," said Nuri.

It was pointed out by Asst. Prof. Dr. Nuri that August is the month of victories. He also reminded that this tradition, which started in Malazgirt in 1071, continued until Mustafa Kemal Atatürk.

CIU Faculty of Education Faculty Member Asst. Prof. Dr. Cahit Nuri also stated that August 30th Victory Day was the biggest step and gift of Gazi Mustafa Kemal to the Turkish nation during the process of the national efforts.
