About the Program

The Faculty of Medicine was established to bring a new and different perspective to medical education. The aim is to become a training and health institution with universal standards, aiming to do research, provide education from elected faculty members, and to serve tomorrow's leaders in the field of medicine. The education period is six years, and the medium of instruction is English. During the first three years, in addition to theoretical and laboratory courses in basic sciences and clinical medicine, there are introductory courses in clinical practice with clinical practices component. The program consists of medical training internships in the fourth and the fifth years. In the sixth year, students will take the responsibility of patient care, and complete their education under the supervision of the teaching practitioners.

Educational Opportunities

The faculty is equipped with the most advanced technology needed for education and research in classrooms and laboratories, with the aim of providing the best and highest quality of education. Students will find all kinds of research and study opportunities in molecular medicine, biochemistry, neurological sciences, cell culture, microbiology, neurophysiology, and homodynamic laboratories. In addition to a comprehensive model laboratory designed for anatomy training, there is an advanced cadaver room. Physiology education will be offered with computerized data, recording and experimentation systems, and each student will be presented with separate microscope and training sets. Also, the program allows each student to participate actively in experiments; biochemical and molecular analysis, metabolism analysis, and structural and biochemical analysis of micro-organisms, in a separate training laboratory.

Career Areas

Students graduating from the Faculty of Medicine, will have the opportunity to work as general medical practitioners in public and private health institutions. Graduates can also apply to "Ph.D." programs in the Department of Basic Medical Sciences of other universities to become academics.

General practitioners wishing to receive special education can continue their specialist education in any field of education at research hospitals or university hospitals, by taking relevant exams to get the title of "Specialist Doctor". Medical doctors can work at private or public health institutions in any country in the world or at their own clinics.

The aim of the course is to develop students’ listening, speaking, reading, writing and study skills. In this course, students learn how to structure a paragraph by focusing on unity and coherence. Moreover, they identify topic sentences, main ideas, supporting details and irrelevant sentences in a paragraph. They will analyze a paragraph and then move into the outlining of a three-paragraph descriptive essay which includes an introductory, a body and a concluding paragraph. In addition, students will practice reading strategies i.e. previewing, predicting, skimming, and scanning which will provide students the opportunity to process new information and to learn how to apply the information to a new situation and to pose questions which are catalysts in the critical thinking process.

This course provides an overview of Information Technologies and introduces the basics of computer systems, including the four essential components of computer systems to students. The aim of this module is to introduce students to cellular metabolism, cell structures, histochemistry principles, medical microbiology and medical genetics. The module includes, glycolysis, citric acid cycle, electron transfer, oxidative phosphorylation, glycoprotein, lipid, lipoprotein, amino acid, nucleic acid metabolisms, cellular organelles, extracellular matrix and cell to cell adhesion, molecules of inheritance, central dogma, principles of histochemistry, general futures of bacteria viruses, fungi and parasites, concepts and investigation techniques of human genetics. The main objective of this module is to introduce inheritance, development and human tissues. This module will cover, embryological terms, gametogenesis, fertilization, human development (1-8 weeks), foetal period, foetal membranes, epithelial and connective tissue development and histology, distribution of tissues, mitosis and myosis, recombination, chromosomes, mutation, DNA repair, cell death, cellular aging, organ system physiology, anatomical terminology, biochemistry of tissues and organs, developmental genetics, inheritance, population genetics, gene and linkage mapping. The aim of this module is to teach histology, anatomy, biochemistry and physiology of constituents relevant to movement system and introduce bioelectricity models and radiology. Early Observation of Clinics course is designed based on communication skills and basic professional skills. At the end of this course, students will learn basic communication methods, take anamnesis, take personal and family history related to diseases, and make registration of patient files. Students will have the ability to perform a physical examination and will learn to distinguish the basic pathological signs and symptoms. They will learn the basic principles of radiological imaging methods and examination methods such as X-ray examination, computed tomography, Ultrasonography, Magnetic Resonance imaging, and angiography. They will learn chemicals used in nuclear medicine and radionuclide diagnostic methods in all organs and body systems. This program focuses on the principles of protecting child health and treating childhood diseases. It is aimed to teach nutrition, vaccination, growth, and development monitoring, which play an important role in the protection of child health. Clinical examination and follow-up of pediatric patients, various signs and symptoms in pediatrics, and changes of signs according to age will be reviewed. The training will be mainly done with patient scenario analysis and bedside applications. Students will know the general aspects of approaching pediatric patients, adopt the principles of preventive health care in them, and will be able to diagnose and treat common diseases of childhood. Neurological, nephrological, hematological and endocrinological diseases in childhood also included in this course.

Students will have the knowledge and skills to diagnose and treat the diseases they will encounter while providing primary health care in their countries. In addition, they will be trained to have the clinical skills to perform neurological emergency response, refer them to a higher level institution when necessary, and advise on prevention methods and risk factors. The differential diagnosis of common neurological diseases will be evaluated with bedside training, basic symptoms and neurological examination findings, and necessary diagnostic tools. Preventive medicine practices will be taught in the preliminary diagnosis of neurological diseases, dementia, multiple sclerosis, epilepsy, movement disorders, and sleep disorders. Alzheimer's Disease, amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, ataxia, epilepsy and seizures, headache, meningitis, muscular dystrophy, Parkinson's Disease, stroke, migraine headaches also included in this course.

In this program, students will practice under the supervision of a physician in the field of psychiatry in order to improve and review the information given about diagnosis and treatment modalities, mental examination, and interview techniques. During the program, clinic training will be provided in such a way to recognize common mental health problems and diseases in society and learn the right approach for these patients. In addition, students will learn the principles of rapid intervention in psychiatric emergencies and will be able to intervene in the patient-physician relationship and use appropriate techniques and will develop these skills by collaborating with the medical staff working in the clinic. Common psychiatric disorders such as anxiety disorders, bipolar disorder, and schizophrenia are also included in this course.

The purpose of this program is to provide the oppurtunity for acquiring knowledge and skills on infectious disease. Students will study common infectious diseases and health-related infections in the clinic and will be competent in diagnosis and treatment skills in preventive medicine while working in primary health care institutions related to these diseases. Students will take inpatient or outpatient history, perform a physical examination, plan examinations (to have the knowledge, diagnose, treat, protect), and thus gain the necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities at the required level. Viral (viral hepatitis), bacterial (chlamydia, gonorrhea) fungal and parasitic (helminths and protozoa) infections will be taught in this course. Also evaluating laboratory and imaging methods, evaluation of results, planning, and monitoring of treatments will be done.

This program aims to inform students on dermatological disease and to gain students medical skills related to this field. During the dermatology program, clinical training will be given to the students to define common dermatological diseases, organize their primary care treatments, and refer them to a specialist in cases that are resistant to treatment and in cases that require further examination or treatment. Clinical applications will be made so that trainees can make diagnosis/differential diagnoses by synthesizing examination findings. With clinical training, the opportunity to explain the dermatological procedures and laboratory methods to be used in the diagnosis and differential diagnosis of dermatological diseases will be given.

This course introduces some popular molecular graphics systems that allow for the visualization, animation, editing, and publication-quality imagery of proteins. It focuses on hands-on experience in the classroom and builds solid skills in visually investigating the 3D molecular structures of proteins and their interactions with each other and with ligands such as substrates and drugs. The course also explores the importance of protein sequence and structure alignment programs in revealing evolutionary relationships between proteins. Finally, it emphasizes the use of computational tools for predicting the effects of amino acid substitutions on protein structure and function as well as classifying mutations as deleterious or benign.
