About the Program

In this age of revolutionary changes in information technologies, Information Technologies Program under the School of Applied Sciences was founded in order to educate qualified staff in software applications and computer hardware inspection, design, development, execution, management and support. The content of this program is designed to provide students with practical and theoretical perspectives on computing technologies and to have a different perspective. Within the program, students are offered various courses in different areas of information technology including system analysis and design, database management systems, internet and visual programming, network management and design, and business intelligence.

Educational Opportunities

Students are able to access the required course materials from the university's library and online course management portal. Furthermore, as part of the coursework, students benefit from the laboratories and/or field work (for practical courses) to implement the theoretical input into practice. In addition to the laboratory exercises; practical implementations, combined with the case studies from real life situations, course internships and independent studies offered within courses also help students to apply theory into practice. Moreover, seminars given by experts from the sector/market; invited guest speakers for relevant courses, summer internship where students work in a company for 30 days and collaborations with other organizations offer authentic learning and potential employment opportunities for students.

Career Areas

Graduates can design information systems, work in development and application areas, establish their own technology companies, work in the public and private sectors in Turkey, Europe and in emerging business opportunities in other countries at higher rates. These countries experience constant improvement and reconstruction so there is a high demand for the graduates of this program in our country and the rest of the world. The use and development of information technologies is rapidly increasing in all areas of our lives. For this reason, graduates of the program will be able to find employment in different business areas where technological development and changes are needed. Graduates of Information Technologies Program are able to work in various fields, especially in information processing centers, project development, and software and programming and consultancy units of the private sector and public institutions. Potential positions include; system engineer, program developer, mobile application developer, website manager, network designer, database administrator and information technology consultant.

This course presents the basics of computer systems. The course is structured in two parts; including a short history of computers, the first part of this course presents the history, basic concepts and terminology of information technology, basic hardware and software components of a computer system, and integration of computer system components. Besides the terminologies and abbreviations, the students learn about the hardware setup of a personal computer and the relations between the processor, memory and secondary devices. The laboratory part includes basic computer usage and office programs (MS Word, Excel). In the second part, basics of problem solving approaches, components and construction of computer programs, flow-charting, and modular programming issues are discussed. This course examines basic areas of language and expression. In the first half of the course, the theoretical approach to language is formed and the spelling rules of the Turkish language are studied. This course provides an orientation to modern Turkish language for foreign students who wish to communicate in this language for their needs. It mainly focuses on the differences between Turkish and English Alphabets, especially the sounds and the letters which are not included in the English alphabet (i.e. Turkish letters ç-ğ-i-ö-ş-ü). In addition, basic grammar and sentence structure forms in Turkish are practised. The required grammar and vocabulary will also be developed through their adaptation to daily situations in contexts such as introducing yourselves, greeting, talking about the things they possess by using possessive adjectives, forming positive, negative and question sentences by using present simple, telling the time, talking about their own timetables, using demonstrative pronouns when describing the place of objects and becoming familiar with vocabulary related to family members.

This is an introductory course covering money, the monetary system and their relevance to the functioning of the national economy. It covers monetary and fiscal policies, unemployment, interest rates, and inflation as well. It dwells on the measurement of the level of output and its determination. This course is the continuation of ENG 101. The course aims to improve students' listening, speaking, reading, writing and working skills. In the course, students are guided in writing compare and contrast essays using Venn diagram. In addition, the aim of the course is to learn the necessary conjunctions for composition writing. In addition, the students will be able to write a four-part critical composition by learning the difference between ideas and factual real sentences and how to write the opposing opinion and sentences used to refute it. This course presents the basic tools for the analysis and design of synchronous sequential circuits consisting of both flip-flops and combinational logic. The course introduces flip-flops, synchronous sequential circuit analysis and design methods, registers, shift registers, ripple counters, and synchronous binary counters. Furthermore, the topics binary adders and subtractors, multiplexers, and decoders which are the combinational circuit building blocks are included. Lastly, the structure, design, and internal characteristics of processor components are also provided. In the laboratory hours, the students are experiencing the circuit designs discussed in the lecture hours both in software environment by using the simulator program and in hardware environment by using the integrated circuits in order to setup and test their designs.

The objective of this course is to provide the basics of data structures and data organization. The course will introduce C/C++ and algorithms for the implementation of data structures which are stack, queue, linked list, tree. Linked lists with their types and implementations are also studied in details. Theoretical aspects of most widely used data structures will be covered during the lectures. The purpose of the capstone project is to evaluate students' ability to complete a project without a given detailed structure usually found in undergraduate courses. The capstone project is multidisciplinary, student from different department come together to undertake a project that are related to each students department. In the course of the project, students undertake a feasibility study explaining the aims, objectives, tasks, milestones, duration and development of the project. At the end of the project, students will gain knowledge on subject from other department. Student will be able to relate its field of expertise to that of others in the departments. After completion of the project they need to submit a thesis and attend an oral presentation.

Data mining have roots in the fields of artificial intelligence, machine learning (including classification, prediction, and clustering), statistical data analysis, data visualization and information retrieval.
