CYPRUS INTERNATIONAL UNIVERSITY- WEC STEM FOR GIRLS

Women make up only 28% of the workforce in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics  (STEM), and men vastly outnumber women majoring in most STEM fields in college. The gender gaps are particularly high in some of the fastest-growing and highest-paid jobs of the future, like computer science and engineering. (AAUW)
In view of this, the STEM scholarship for girls is designed to bridge the gap and get more girls to study STEM thereby contributing to gender equality in education.

CYPRUS INTERNATIONAL UNIVERSITY- WEC ENGLISH BOOK CLUB

We understand how difficult learning English is for non-speaking English nationals. To this effect, we created a book club to help our students practice and learn how to speak English.

CYPRUS INTERNATIONAL UNIVERSITY-WEC DIGIHUB

WEC DigiHub is a CIU International women center program that is aimed at equipping young women aged 18 - 35 with high-income and in-demand digital skills to stand out in the global labor market. Our mission is to empower at least 1000 young women with digital skills and the practical steps to market their skills and make a living out of their chosen path.

1. WEC INTERNATIONAL WOMEN'S DAY IS HELD EVERY 8TH OF MARCH

International women's day is a worldwide celebration of women and CIU-WEC is commemorating this day annually with conferences, booth campaign, Social media sensitization and workshops that focus on the ongoing progress of women around the world.

2. 16 DAYS OF ACTIVISM AGAINST GENDER-BASED VIOLENCE

The 16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence is an annual international campaign that kicks off on 25 November, the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, and runs until 10 December, Human Rights Day. Highlights of the event include seminars, Social media awareness and other activities such as a walk that aim to bring students together and create awareness on the Gender Based Violence and the role of the community to mitigate this menace.

3. GOING GREEN WITH FEMININE HYGIENE

CIU being ranked the 111th most sustainable campus and the only campus to make the world ranking on the island of Cyprus, was the driving force for CIU women empowerment center to initiate the Go Green with feminine hygiene on campus as an annual event to educate and enlighten the young girls on campus. Going green is important for the health and safety of our own bodies and our planet. Making green choices and reducing our environmental footprint can start with your feminine hygiene routine. Through this campaign, we hope to educate and sensitize young ladies about the importance of using sustainable hygiene products. Highlights of this event include free skincare consultation with medical professionals and workshops to educate females on campus on the relevance of feminine hygiene and sustainable feminine products.

4. WORLD CULTURAL DIVERSITY DAY ON 21ST MAY

CIU is a multicultural society with over 110 countries. CIU-WEC commemorates the world's cultural diversity day through a round table discussion for dialogue and development with female students from different cultures. The aim of this is to understand the essential role of intercultural dialogue for achieving peace and sustainable development as well as appreciate the cultural diversity between different countries.

5. BREAST CANCER AWARENESS MONTH

Breast cancer awareness month in CIU-WEC involves days of campaigns to gain and spread knowledge and to educate young girls about breast cancer and what role society plays. This campaign takes place every 13th to 31st of October. The color pink is used to represent this awareness on campus and is a form of sensitization on social media.
