Prof. Dr. Metin Karadağ, the Dean of the Faculty of Arts and Sciences, at Cyprus International University (CIU), said a documentary about the life, works, and thoughts of the world-famous Turkish Cypriot poet Osman Türkay is being prepared.
Prof. Dr. Karadağ stated that the documentary would be produced primarily to be shown in Northern Cyprus and later in Turkey and the Turkish world. He said Türkay's life would be produced as a scripted documentary based on his life, poems and thoughts.
Karadağ recalled that Osman Türkay was born in 1927 in the village of Kazafana (Ozanköy) in Kyrenia. He said that he gained a universal reputation for his poems which he usually wrote in the English language. Karadağ also pointed out that Osman Türkay was one of the first Turkish poets to be nominated for the Nobel Prize in literature.
Karadağ said the documentary will be about the life of the poet, the places he lived, his relatives, venues dealt with in his poems, monuments, historical places and mythological places.
In the first steps of making the documentary, scenario studies will be created and then preliminary studies will be done with student groups. After field observations and filming, programs will be organized and the raw materials will be completed, and then montage and sound recordings will be done.
Finally, efforts will be made to show the documentary on local, national and even international channels. Karadağ announced that a panel in his name would be held in Ozanköy. Also, programmes will be held on television channels about the subject.
