Determining in-service training needs of human resources in TRNC accommodation establishments

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Hale Özdoğaç Özgit, a faculty member from the School of Tourism and Hotel Management of Cyprus International University (CIU) started a project on “Determining In-Service Training Needs of Human Resources in TRNC Hospitality Enterprises.”

The researchers aim to find out why human resources in hospitality businesses need in-service training and to investigate the dimensions of these requirements and what kind of in-service training they would like to have.

The study involves all accommodation establishments in the TRNC and attempting to determine which training issues are of priority for human resources within the framework of in-service training.

It was also highlighted that the development of the skills and qualifications of the staff working at all levels of accommodation establishments in TRNC is important in terms of increasing the company’s performance: “According to the view accepted in general terms in the world and in the TRNC; the quality and skills of the human resources consisting of the owner, line managers and other staff at all levels directly affect the performance of the company”.

 Assoc. Prof. Dr. Özgit said that this research project will provide an opportunity for human resources in accommodation businesses to keep up with innovations, gain a perspective of professional development and raise quality standards.

The education deficit has always been mentioned by the tourism sector stakeholders said Assoc. Prof. Dr. Özgit and added that the research in question would also enable us to determine where the deficits are.

After defining the critical needs, the areas where resources should be directed and become priority will be identified said Özgit.
