Asst. Prof. Dr. Sarem Özdemir, faculty member from the Faculty of Education, Cyprus International University (CIU) pointed out the importance of teaching profession and said: “teachers are the ones who create all other professions.”
It was noted that the Teachers' Day is celebrated at different times around the world and it is celebrated on October 5 and November 24 in our country. The importance of considering the history and political history of the day as well as our teachers and their conditions was also underlined.
It is difficult for an unhappy teacher or a teacher to experience negative emotions to move forward to the country. Teachers playing the leading role in the building of the future are facing some problems, said Asst. Prof. Dr. Özdemir.
She continued by noting that the teaching profession cannot be done only with the information acquired in the university: “Personal qualifications are as important as professional qualifications, and perhaps even more. For example, having high expectations of success from each student, treating each student as an individual, being witty, friendly and sincere can be mentioned among these”.
She remarked: “Today, there are problems based on the misinterpretation of the concept of education by children and young people and the process is carried to a negative point”.
Özdemir finalized her speech by noting that the teaching profession is similar to a candlelight: “I would like to celebrate the day of all the teachers, who illuminate the world by their lights, like a candle.”
