About the Department

The Law Department provides a computer-assisted education program, implemented by faculty members, as specialists in the field of contemporary, active and interactive education, knowledge and equipment, at an international level. The program offers both theoretical and practical courses, as well as national and international conferences and symposiums. The students have the opportunity to specialize in the field of international law, Cypriot law or Turkish law. The program also offers a number of elective courses for professional development and specialization. The purpose of the Faculty of Law is to equip students with specialized knowledge and experience in the specific field of law. A crucial part of these goals within this framework, is to provide students with the most up-to-date information; improve their writing, expressing and reasoning skills; and apply abstract rules to concrete events, to solve their specific problems.

Education Opportunities

The students are prepared to practice law as a result of the practical courses on Supreme Court and Council of State decisions. All students have the opportunity to conduct research on lectures and practical work by using computers with internet connection. Assignments are given to help students gain research and presentation skills. Moot Court practices are also offered. Collaboration agreements are made for students to monitor the hearings in local courts and have internship opportunities. Internship collaborations are made with international organizations for those students who are competent in a foreign language and have high academic success. National /international panels and conferences are also organized to increase students’ knowledge and skills.

Faculty of Law graduates can work in the following areas: as a Legal and prosecution lawyer; legal counseling in national and international companies; and legal counseling in the private and public sectors. Other career areas include: instructor employment opportunities in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs; inspectors in the Ministry of Interior Affairs and the Ministry of Finance; duties in various international organizations such as the Governor's Office, security directorate, Bureaucracy NATO, the Council of Europe, the United Nations Organization and the International Monetary Fund (IMF).

In this course, the concept of law is analyzed from a holistic perspective. First part of the course engages with conceptual issues of law, of legal thinking, and of legal rules and ethical principles. In the second part of the course, epistemological questions about law and legality are discussed taking into account different perceptions of legality put forward by several schools of legal thought. In this context, by referring to legal positivism and natural law discussions, the relationship between concepts of justice and law is studied. The last part of the course introduces a comparative approach to theories of justice engaging with main problems of social and material justice.

The course introduces students with basic speech patterns at the elementary level. ENG 112 is the continuation of ENG 111. The course integrates the four main skills at a higher elementary level for students. Also, by reading higher level paragraphs and texts, students infere the meaning of new words by using their existing vocabulary. Through productive skills, which are speaking and writing, students identify different register and use the given language in an appropriate way. In the first half of the course, the theoretical approach to language is formed and the spelling rules of the Turkish language are studied.
