Famous Artists met with CIU students

Famous theater actors and directors Erdal Cindoruk and Ali Düşenkalkar met with the students at a program organized by the Theater Club functioning under the Social Activities and Student Clubs Coordination Office of  Cyprus International University (CIU), Student Development and Counseling Center.

The talk took place at the Levent Kindergarten where Erdal Cindoruk and Ali Düşenkalkar shared their experiences with students and participants about acting, theater, directing, screenplay and the effects of social media.

Famous artist Erdal Cindoruk pointed out that things are a little more difficult in theater compared to television, as on stage you are face to face with the audience. It is easier for someone who acts in the theater to switch to television,” he said.

While talking about directing, Cindoruk said, “directing an actor is very difficult. For example, you carve a statue, it is entirely your creation. But directing this actor is a whole other thing," he said.

While explaining how the director visualizes the characters in the story  in his mind, Cindoruk said, "For example, if a character is a rude man, it would not be right to describe this man from a naive perspective. For this character, you would use a muscular man. Consequently, in time, you become an expert on human kind.”

Reminding that each scenario can be evaluated differently, Ali Düşenkalkar said, “A series that I thought was very good ended after  the 6th  episode. You think of the screenwriter, producer, and lighting technician because about 2-3 thousand people make their living off  a TV series."

Düşenkalkar said that there are warnings to the screenwriters on social media, "For example, from time to time, in the series, I might act as a bad father in my relation with my son. When this is the case, comments like 'Kill Muammer' are immediately posted on social media."

Düşenkalkar said that the theater is  very different since actors have to establish eye-contact with the audience. After the conversation with Erdal Cindoruk and Ali Düşenkalkar,  CIU Theater Club staged a two-act play called "Nine Lives."

CIU Theater Club President Selin Süral talked about the play and said, “We went through a very challenging process. This beautiful play helped us overcome all the difficulties together. The audience who came to watch and gave us collective support with their applause, helped to eliminate the difficulties we encountered during this proces
