Tourism and Hospitality Industry which is among the leading industries of our globalized world in terms of both creating income and employment has been developing rapidly day by day.World Travel and Tourism Council (WTTC) points out that the population who are employed in tourism sector has reached to 235 million.Whatsmore, it is guessed that, in 2020 the total contribution of Travel and Tourism Economy to gross domestic product will be 11 trillion 151 billion dollar; around 303 million people will be employed; export revenues which stem from international guests will be 2 trillion 160 billion dollar and investment on travel and tourism will reach to 2 trillion and 757 billion dollar.
While the adequacy and skills of the staff effect the quality level of the presented service in Tourism and Hospitality industry directly, qualifications of the staff increase the value of the products.The way of sustainable development for countries and institutions is related to having qualified labor. The mission of CIU School of Tourism and Hotel Management ,which continues its facilities by adopting this vision, is to make its students prominent human resources of the sector by giving a good quality education.To achieve this, it is aimed that students have knowledge which increases their skills and abilities and they become members of the sector who are preferred first all the time.Our academic and administrative staff show interest to their students individually and they guide them to make the right decision for their career. By keeping the student number in classroom at the previously set standarts, each student’s educational development is followed closely and their individual needs are considered.
In CIU, the modern education programme of School of Tourism and Hotel Management has been prepared to educate students as individuals, who are sensitive to technological developments, international and local tendencies in tourism sector, and changeable economical conditions of its students. It is aimed to make Alumni the most valuable human resources of the sector with the knowledge accumulation and experience which will be gained by means of the education programme which has been prepared carefully. Students, who are equipped with the systematic and academic management methods, will be able to walk more confidently towards their targets as successful workers, managers and business owner of the future. In addition to courses which are related to gain general business formation, also the courses, which teach the knowledge that requires expertness and the general working philosophy of tourism and hospitality, are included in our education programme. In tourism and hospitality industry, one of the main factors of the success is foreign language knowledge. With this principle, the curriculum, which all courses are in English, also includes other foreign languages such as German, French, Italian, Russian and Chinese.
With the approach of adopting and strengthening the knowledge by practicing, the opportunity of increasing the experiences, which are based on practicing, is given to the students. Summer internships are organized with the aim of combining the knowledge and skills, which are gained by theoretical educational system, with the experience. In addition to this, CIU Tourism and Hotel Management School students have the opportunity to practice the concepts, models and methods, which have been presented theoretically in courses, by means of the computers, laboratories of bar, kitchen and floor and experimental studios. The package programmes, which are related to the subjects that are presented in classes, provide the adoption of theoretical knowledge according to real life with the support of technological background. In computer laboratories, which are established with the aim of developing the skills of using computer and technology, which are very important for the students in the School of Tourism and Hotel Management at CIU, the training of package programmes which are used intensively in tourism sector such as Opera and Fidelio in addition to the knowledge about Office programmes is given. Our laboratories and experimental studios which were designed by considering today`s requirements, support our students in developing their skills and abilities with their modern technical equipments.
