A Constructive Alignment Workshop was organized at CIU
Prof. Dr. Ayhan Bilsel, Lecturer of the Faculty of Engineering of Cyprus International University and the President of the European Credit Transfer System (ECTS) Coordination Committee of the university, gave the opening speech of the workshop and shared with the teaching staff the most recent research studies in the formation and development of quality culture in education which started with the European Credit Transfer System studies of CIU..
CIU Rector, Prof. Dr. Halil Nadiri, stated that ECTS is one of the rare credit systems that consciously contribute to the education during his speech at the opening of the workshop. Nadiri relayed that regular studies started three years ago with the establishment of the ECTS committee in CIU and he mentioned that by following the innovations in education and the sector they continued their development. Prof. Dr. Halil Nadiri recalled that such activities are a necessity and should be implemented regularly, adding that to develop the institution and the system there is a need for a serious work.
In his first session, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Erbil Akbil, member of the ECTS Committee and the Accreditation Committee, gave information about the Constructive Alignment approach in university education, developed by John Biggs, which has gained great importance in recent years.
In his second session, Akbil mentioned the learning output writing practices and he shared with the participants the importance of selecting action verbs for the course learning outcomes. Akbil stated that they did a self-assessment study on the learning outcomes to facilitate the students' learning so that they ensured the success of the students through the success of the program. Assoc. Prof. Dr. Akbil announced that they aim to increase the quality of education in the region by pioneering this approach in Northern Cyprus.
