"The Turkish Cypriot Psychologists Association" organized a talk at CIU
"Cypriot Turkish Psychologists Association (CTPA) Talk" was held by the Psychology Club affiliated to the Social Activities Coordinator at the Student Development and Counseling Center, the Faculty of Arts and Sciences, Cyprus International University (CIU).
At the event that Prof. Dr. Oya Somer, The Head of the Pscyhology Department participated, the speakers were Refia Erosal, the head of the CTPA and members Bengü Berkmen, Şerife Hilkat, Eşmen Tatlıcalı and Elanur Altuntaş, the Head of the Psychology Club.
Refia Erosal, the President of the Turkish Cypriot Psychologists Association (CTPA) stated that the interest to the psychology profession has been increasing and as CTPA their main aim is to collect the members of the profession under one umbrella and to advocate for the rights of both professional members and citizens receiving psychological services.
Erosal stated that this year for the first time they started the training in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, which is accredited by the British Psychological Society, one of the largest organizations in psychology and mentioned that they have a very intense event calendar reaching about 20 activities per year.
Eşmen Tatlıcalı, CTPA member, who was the another speaker of the event, said that if you want to become a Psychologist, graduate education is not enough to become a Psychologist and she drew attention on the necessity of taking psychotherapy trainings from accredited institutions which had a validity.
Şerife Hilkat, the member of CTPA explained how students can be involved in the committee and how students can benefit from the Association.
Elanur Altuntaş, the Head of the Psychology Club said the event was organised to be beneficial both for the students and psychologists by informing about the ethical problems and professional law in psychology and to introduce the CTPA Association's aims and principles.
