A training on "Gaining Awareness in Addiction" was held in cooperation with the Prime Minister’s Drug Enforcement Commission at CIU

An event on "Gaining Awareness in Addiction" was held by the Centre for Psychological Counselling and Guidance (PCG), Cyprus International University (CIU). Gülcem Sala Razı, a member of the Prime Minister’s Drug Enforcement Commission, who spoke at the event, stated that they aimed to give information for the university students about addiction.

Gülcem Sala Razı defined addiction and gave information about the development process. Razı also made explanations about the points to be considered during the process and she made recommendations about what students should do in order to protect themselves. Sala Razı said that the most important factor for young people to be safe in drug use is to protect themselves and she added that they increased the awareness of young people with the slogan of "Protect Yourself First".

Huriye Koruşan, an Expert Psychologist stated that the first goal of raising awareness about the addiction is to protect the people at risk and she mentioned that it is important that the addiction is not the responsibility of only one person and it is important to work as a team.

Çise Haşimoğulları, an Expert Psychologist emphasized that one of the goals of the Psychological Counselling and Guidance Centre is to raise awareness and she added that there is an increase in the use of addictive substances by students and society nowadays.

Haşimoğulları stated that the seminar was held in cooperation with the Prime Minister and she added that they are proud to be the first university that invited the Prime Minister’s Drug Enforcement Commission in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus.

Çise Haşimoğulları, an Expert Psychologist said that they would continue to organize such awareness-raising activities in order to raise awareness of the students.
