“Teachers' Day Panel” held at CIU
A “Teachers' Day Panel” was held by the Faculty of Education, Cyprus International University (CIU), within the scope of the November 24th Teachers' Day.
Prof. Dr. Halil İbrahim Yalın, Dean of the Faculty of Education, CIU, stated that teaching is an important and enshrined profession, during his speech at the opening of the panel, and he celebrated teachers' day for all the teachers and teacher candidates.
Prof. Dr. Cengiz Şahin, President of the Turkish Psychological Counseling and Guidance Association (PCGA), mentioned the development of the PCGA in Turkey and he talked about the concept of learning and teaching. Şahin made a brief evaluation of PCGA services in schools and he stated that PCGA services are an integral part of education and a non-PCGA education system would not be possible. Şahin stated that there is a high inteterst in the universities’ PCGA departments and he said one of the most important features of the teaching profession is lifelong learning.
Prof. Dr. Mehmet Çağlar, who made a speech at the panel on “New Approaches in Teaching and Education”, talked about the changes in the teaching profession and changing educational approaches. Çağlar said that the teaching profession has become much more important than in the past because of the rapid development of the world, technological developments, and changes in learning theories. Çağlar pointed out that in this sense, it is important to educate high quality teachers. He said thatin the education of future generations together with that of society the education community faces a big task. In his speech, Çağlar added that the teaching profession has an important place among the occupational groups in terms of carrying society forward.
