A talk on “Being a Psychotherapist” was held by the CIU Psychology Club
A talk on “Being a Psychotherapist” was held by the Psychology Club of Cyprus International University (CIU).
Ersin Bayramkaya, a Specialist Clinical Psychologist/Psychotherapist, pointed out the importance of trust in the relationship between the therapist and the client.
He mentioned that the most important factor in research on the success of therapy is the relationship between the therapist and the client. The therapist must not judge his/her client and they should try to understand the person carefully. The implementation of all of these results will be more useful by specifying the therapy, therapy methods and techniques as these are seen as a mean to understand people. Family, friends or therapists can send messages to speed up the process of healing by pointing out that the clients should arrive to therapy on time and when they are ready. Also it is important to give time to the individual and his/her environment which is changing.
He continued that the therapist and the client should act in harmony. It is important to follow a therapy model in addition to reading academic studies, scientific books and technical education. He said that the supervision process should also be completed.
Bayramkaya advised students to develop themselves with academic education. He said “take the journeys that you have not planned. Because these journeys help people a lot to recognize themselves, read books from outside the field and have hobbies related to literature, philosophy, film, art, sports.”
Asst. Prof. Dr. Manolya Çalışır, a lecturer of CIU Psychology Department, said the interview was based on the experiences of Ersin Bayramkaya and students were informed about the journey of psychotherapy and the road map that needs to be followed in this journey.
