Students from the Department of Civil Engineering, CIU came together with the representatives of the Chamber of Turkish Cypriot Civil Engineers
The event was organized by the Department of Civil Engineering, Faculty of Engineering, Cyprus International University (CIU) during the "Civil Engineering Week". Hüdaverdi Tozan, Civil Engineer and Özgün Akcan participated as speakers to represent the Turkish Cypriot Chamber of Civil Engineers (TCCCE).
Hüdaverdi Tozan, Civil Engineer gave students information about the materials used in Civil Engineering at European standards. Tozan described the historical development of European standards and then described which standard is appropriate for which building. Hüdaverdi Tozan also noted that each country should adapt and use the standards taken from the European Union.
Özgür Akcan informed the students about the visa regulations of the Chamber of Civil Engineers and he emphasized the importance of taking care of the structures of the buildings in the disaster areas.
Akcan gave students detailed information about their departments and possible work areas for civil engineers after graduation. In addition, he gave examples of applications which are also approved by the government. Akcan provided information about how to make steel or concrete buildings in the field of engineering. He shared the points that the engineers should be used in concrete building in future and the points that needs to be considered with the students. Özgür Akcan also pointed out that the building stability controls should be done on a regular basis and he emphasized that every step applied should be kept under control.
The event, organized at Çevik Uraz Conference Hall, CIU was ended by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ayşe Pekrioğlu’s, the Head of the Department of Civil Engineering, presentation of the certificates of appreciation to Civil Engineer Hüdaverdi Tozan and Özgün Akcan.
