Selim Özel, a CIU Graduate and a TAV Company Employee Shared His Experiences with Students

Selim Özel, a Civil Engineering Graduate of Faculty of Engineering, Cyprus International University (CIU) shared his experiences with the students from CIU.

Selim Özel, a Civil Engineer, stated that he works as a civil engineer at TAV Company and gave students examples from the large projects that he is involved in abroad.

Selim Özel gave examples of the differences in the function of the private construction sector in Turkey, and abroad and he gave advice, for students who will graduate, about how to adapt for the business environment.

Selim Özel said the information gained from the courses is not enough and he suggested students to do activates at their leisure time related to their profession and develop themselves.

Özel emphasized the importance of foreign language proficiency in addition to the professional qualifications if students want to work abroad. He added that knowing foreign language, will make a difference for them.

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ayşe Balkıs, the Head of the Department of Civil Engineering, said they regularly bring together former students with current students so that they can get advice about university life as well as what to expect when they enter into the business life in the future.

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Balkıs stated that the university and business life are different and she added that they convey the self-confidence and courage needed by the students by organizing these kinds of activities.

The event ended with the presentation of a certificate of appreciation to Selim Özel by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ayşe Balkıs, the Head of the Department of Civil Engineering.
