"Recent Developments about the World Politics" were discussed at CIU
A panel on "Current Developments about the World Politics" was organized by the Social and Strategic Policy Research Centre (SOSPAM), International Relations Department, Faculty of Economics and Administrative Sciences, Cyprus International University (CIU).
Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ercan Gündoğan, The Director of the International Relations Department was the chairman of the panel, so he moderated the panel. The speakers of the panel were Assoc. Dr. Mohamed Moncef Khaddar and Assist. Prof. Dr. Turan Cavlan.
Assist. Prof. Dr. Turan Cavlan said the purpose of the panel was to inform the students about the current world issues, to talk about them and to encourage them to do academic research. Assist. Prof. Dr. Cavlan noted that there are various problems in many parts of the world such as environmental pollution, health problems and apart from these terrorism, transnational criminal and criminal organizations.
In his speech, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Mohamed Moncef Khaddar talked about "American Peace, Middle East-North Africa (MENA) and Mediterranean Regional Order." Assoc. Prof. Dr. Khaddar said that there is no consensus among scholars and politicians about who rules the world and whether world order is shaped by 'democratic' processes or under 'imperial' rules. Prof. Dr. Khaddar added that after the first Gulf War in 1991 and the invasion of Iraq in 2003, The Middle East-North Africa, is under the control of a sort of 'Pax Americana' -American peace, The American order – domination.
The panel, which was held at Çevik Uraz Conference Hall, CIU ended with students and academicians questions and answers.
