A project was initiated by academics from the Department of Nutrition and Dietetics at Cyprus International University (CIU) on "Nutritional Habits and the Determination of the Nutritional Status of Adult Individuals in the 19-65 Age Group Living in the Nicosia Region."
Assist. Prof. Dr. Ayhan Dağ, the Project Advisor and Head of the Nutrition and Dietetics Department, explained the project as a comprehensive research on the nutritional habits of adult individuals in the 19-65 age group living in Nicosia Region.
In the project the demographic characteristics were determined and nutrition habits were examined in the first instance. Ayhan Dağ stated that within the scope of the project, they researched whether individuals eat out and if they do what kind of food they prefer. In this way they examined the frequency and quantity of food consumption and whether there is an inadequacy in the intake of macro and micro nutrients.
Dağ also stated that physical activity levels of the individuals were measured. He said that the anthropometric measurements (height, weight, waist, hip, body weight index) of the individuals were taken and nutritional consumption, nutritional habits, and physical activity levels obtained from these measurements were evaluated separately in male and female individuals.
Within the scope of the project, questionnaires were completed but the work is in progress so the data analysis has not been done yet. Assist. Prof. Dr. Dağ said the data obtained from these projects will be compared to the data from the World Health Organization and the Turkey Nutrition and Health Survey (TBSA 2010).
Assist. Prof. Dr. Dağ said the project is being conducted by Prof. Dr. Metin Saip Sürücüoğlu, Prof. Dr. Seyit Mehmet Mercanlıgil, Instructor Nazife Hürer, and Research Assistant Deniz Rojina Aygül.
