May 19th is a Symbolic Beginning of Independence and Rebellion against Imperialism

Prof.Dr.Metin Karadağ, the Dean of the Faculty of Arts and Sciences, Cyprus International University (CIU) made explanations due to May 19th, which is considered as a symbolic beginning of independence and rebellion against Imperialism, firstly in Turkey and the TRNC and in the world of Turks.

Prof. Dr. Metin Karadağ stated that May 19th was the day when Gazi Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, who opposed to the dictatorial invasion of the imperialist states in order to actually dismantle the Ottoman Empire, stepped out of İstanbul on the way to Samsun.by Bandırma ship. Prof. Dr. Karadağ mentioned that on May 19th the seeds of the Republic of Turkey was laid and he said "Gazi Mustafa Kemal and his friends, who rebelled against the overwhelming pressure of an insecure imbalance, have been creators of an action that has destroyed what has become impossible by transforming the impossibilities into the nation and motherland treasures, creating miracles with courage and determination".

Prof. Dr. Metin Karadağ pointed out that on 24 May 1935 for the first time May 19th was celebrated at Fenerbahçe Stadium as "Atatürk Day" with the support of Beşiktaş Gymnastics Club and he said that a traditional sporting feast has been launched with the participation of hundreds of athletes.

Metin Karadağ said that May 19th is an important example of full independence and freedom struggles against the oppressed nations not only for the Turks but also the entire world. He also pointed out that imperialism has also brought down that will not be forgotten throughout the history.

Prof. Dr. Metin Karadağ, the Dean of the Faculty of Sciences said "The significance and value of this festival, which is a gift to Turkish youth, will be lived forever by Turkish youth and the nation."
