A Panel on "Will the place of the world change? “If Women Are Free!" was held at CIU
A Panel on "Will the place of the world change? “If Women Are Free!" was held by the Department of Physiotherapy and Rehabilitation and Department of Social Work, Faculty of Health Sciences, CIU within the scope of March 8, International Working Women's Day.
Buse Erzeybek, Lecturer of the Social Work Department noted the need for a social change by addressing the recent increase in the physical, economic and psychological violence against women in the country and in the world. Erzeybek stated that the purpose of organizing the event is to raise awareness both in the students and in the society and she added that "we would like to strengthen the struggle in the human and women rights from the past and to contribute to the solutions of the existing problems".
Münevver Özakalın, Lecturer of the Physiotherapy and Rehabilitation Department emphasized that domestic violence is increasing and she also added that they are in a serious struggle in the nightclubs about sex work which is now a criminal offense.
At the event, which was held at Çevik Uraz Conference Hall, CIU presentations were given on "Women and Feminism in History, History of Art" by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Pervin Yiğit, "Women's Rights and Feminism in Cyprus" by Özgül Saygun, "Violence Against Women and Women's Rights" by Lawyer Mine Atlı and "Emotional Manipulation in Bilateral Relations" by an Expert Psychologist Ziliha Uluboy.
At the end of the panel on "Will the place of the world change? “If Women Are Free!” Assist. Prof. Dr. Cem Dikmen presented speakers a certificate of appreciation.
