Palestinian Night was celebrated at CIU
“Palestinian Night” organized by the International Center of Cyprus International University (CIU) was celebrated with enthusiasm.
In the event, where photographs of Palestine were exhibited, and a presentation about the culture, history and local beauties of the country was given. Traditional music and regional dances were performed by the students as well.
Prof. Dr. Halil Nadiri, the Rector of CIU, recalled during his speech that CIU is an international university, and drew attention to the importance of attending nights of different cultures at the university. Nadiri said that at these special nights, students have the opportunity to learn about different cultures and this contributed to their social and intellectual development. He continued on stating that, Palestinian nights are very colorful and entertaining and the Palestinian students at the university are energetic. He mentioned that he has Palestinian friends with strong ties over 30 years and that he would like to visit Palestine as soon as possible.
Mohammad Al Rajabi, the President of the Palestinian Student Society, pointed out the war in their country and that they organized the night to commemorate the events that happened after the war and the citizens who died. Rajabi said that many people do not know about Palestine so they tried to represent their country in the best way possible with the opportunity offered by the university.
Students from all countries participated in the event which took place at the Çevik Uraz Centre Conference Hall, and supported the Palestinian students while dancing and applauding. The event ended with the distribution of Palestinian food.
