"Occupational Health and Safety Program" was approved by YÖK and YÖDAK
"Occupational Health and Safety Program" of the Vocational School of Health Sciences, Cyprus International University (CIU) was approved by the Higher Education Council (YÖK) and the Higher Education Planning, Supervision, Accreditation and Coordination Board (YÖDAK). The Occupational Health and Safety Program starts taking its first students from the academic year 2018-2019.
Assist. Prof. Dr. Davut Cem Dikmen, the Vice Dean of the Faculty of Health Sciences explained that students will have courses such as emergency situations at workplaces, legislation, risk assessment and workplace hazards. Dikmen stated that the importance of the Occupational Health and Safety Programs has been increasing all over the world in the recent years and he said that more than 2.5 million people per year loose their lives due to workplace accidents and occupational diseases.
Dikmen pointed out that Occupational Health and Safety specialists training on a global scale is started in order to coordinate, supervise and carry out activities in the workplaces. Dikmen stated that certificates used to be given by the courses and the exam by the Ministry of Labour and he said with the opening of the Occupational Health Security Departments at the universities the education was made more comprehensible.
Assist. Prof. Dr. Davut Cem Dikmen stated that students will have a chance to find a job in public institutions and will have an opportunity to find a job abroad, and they will be able to work in the committees at occupational health and safety organizations. Dikmen stated that the implementation of the Occupational Health and Safety programme as an associate degree programme has been continuing for three years at the university and he added that with this program, which we’ll be offered to the students during the new academic year, will support professionals who are experts in protecting human life.
