Motivational Interview Techniques were discussed
Cyprus International University (CIU) Department of Nutrition and Dietetics, School of Health Sciences organized a conference for students on motivational interviewing techniques in health care professional and client relationship. Prof. Dr. Nesrin Dilbaz, The Director of the Addiction Practice and Research Centre was a speaker at a conference on "Motivational Interviewing Techniques in Health Care Professional and Client Relationship".
Prof. Dr. Nesrin Dilbaz pointed out that motivational interviewing techniques are the most effective form of communication in terms of ensuring an altered behavioural and attitude change. Nesrin Dilbaz mentioned that this technique, which aims to raise an awareness and increase awareness, is not only professionally beneficial but also to see the purpose of using it in normal life. Prof. Dr. Nesrin Dilbaz, whose professional background is based on patient and client relationship, nutrition and dietetics, psychology, etc. mentioned the importance of using a suitable communication technique and she said learning motivational interviewing techniques could be beneficial in life in all areas.
Prof. Dr. Dilbaz emphasized that firstly the client should be prepared for a change at motivational interviews. Dilbaz said that the motivational interview is not about convincing, but it is about preparing the client to change himself/herself and she mentioned the importance of the necessity of empathy. Dilbaz said "The essence of the motivational interview technique is the process of turning the situation between changing and not changing to an advantage when coping with resistance".
Assist. Prof. Dr. Ayhan Dağ, The Head of the Nutrition and Dietetic Department of CIU said that in all the diseases the counsellor must believe in dietary therapy and pointed out the importance of motivating the client by using motivational interview techniques in dietary treatment of all diseases, especially at obesity treatment.
