Mentally Handicapped Teacher Master Program approved by YÖK

The Cyprus International University (CIU), the Faculty of Education, the Master of Science in Mentally Handicapped Teacher is approved by the Higher Education Council (YÖK).

Assist. Prof. Dr. Ülkü Pişkin Abidoğlu, the Head of the Special Education Department, Faculty of Education confirmed that the program will begin accepting Turkish nationals in the new academic year along with the approval of the Higher Education Council (YÖK). Assist. Prof. Dr. Abidoğlu stated that since the academic year of 2018-2019, both TC and TRNC students are open to apply.

Abidoğlu stated that the language of the program is Turkish, and she informed about the contents of the courses to be taken and she stated that they will use theoretical and practice-based course contents for the education programs for families of mentally handicapped individuals.

Abidoğlu stated that students, who graduate from the Special Education, Mentally Handicapped Education, Psychology, Child Development and Education, Pre-School Teacher Education and Psychological Counselling and Guidance Departments, may apply for the programme.

She stated that the prospective students will be educated in the field of the development of assessment tools in special education, support services in special education, individualized education and group programs, family education, and the education of children with inadequate middle and advanced disabilities.

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ülkü Pişkin Abidoğlu said "By providing information about the job opportunities of the students who graduated from the program, they will be able to take part in program implementations such as consultancy services for families and non-governmental organizations in special education institutions, NGOs, and institutions related to the Ministry of National Education."
