An interview on "Women in Politics and Women's Quotas in Politics" will be held on March 8th, International Women's Day.
Assoc. Prof. Dr. Şölen Külahçı, the Vice Dean of the Faculty of Law informed that Sibel Siber, the former President of the Republic Assembly of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus will speak at at 11:00 am on March 8th, International Women's Day. Assoc. Prof. Dr. Şölen Külahçı said an evaluation of the women's political life and the regulations on the women's quota brought into politics will be covered. Külahçı explained that Sibel Siber, who was also the first female prime minister of the TRNC, will emphasize the importance of women's representation in politics and she added she will also give information about the problems that arise in practice. Külahçı also noted that the reasons for obstacles to women's existence in the political arena will be laid on the table and ways and means of women's participation in politics will also be discussed.
Assoc. Prof. Dr. Şölen Külahçı mentioned that women appear disproportionately in politics, especially in political decision-making and she added that this situation can sometimes emerge from social and cultural structures and it is often as a result of women's personal preferences. Külahçı said "If insufficient participation of women in the political arena is considered as a problem, Sibel Siber will explain what should be done at the point of solution of this problem".
