Cyprus International University (CIU) the member of Faculty of Fine Arts, Design and Architecture, Assoc. Dr. Devrim Yucel Besim gave an explanation of 18 May International Museum Day and stressed the importance of museology.

Devrim Yücel Besim stated that the museums are exhibitions of their historical richness, artistic and cultural accumulation of societies and at the same time they are both educational and open social spaces. Emphasizing that the museums exhibit and hold on to their knowledge, they are very important for the cities and the countries where their assets and diversity are due to their future generations. Besim emphasizes that those who are in the mission to protect and sustain their inherited assets and values from the past have become even more important today.

Dr. Besim said that the quantity and quality of the museums opened by private institutions and individuals, with the support of the government, is increasing gradually and he also stated that countries are also among the valuable income sources. Devrim Yücel Besim has mentioned the fact that many cities, which are named after their museums, are now very innovative and different museums in terms of architecture, and that these cities have gained a new identity.

Besim, who underlined the celebration of May 18th International Museum Day as the Faculty of Fine Arts, Design and Architecture, said that "We would like to emphasize that the existence of the museums as a celebration in order to strengthen the social ties of the museums since 1977 is the real vitality. In this awareness, we place our education programs in museum projects, museology, exhibition and exhibition design topics in our training programs of Architecture, Interior Design, Graphic Design and Industrial Product Design departments quite intensively. We also try to support our existing museums through joint technical visits, workshops and exhibitions.’’

Instructor of Cyprus International University Assoc. Dr. Devrim Yücel Besim emphasized that the International Council of Museums (ICOM) believes that museums and museum issues should be discussed more deeply in the northern part of Cyprus this year under the theme titled "Museums and Discussed History: Expressing the Unspoken Things in the Museums". At the end of the Besim's announcement, he said that, "We wish that the existing museums in our country will be developed, enriched with new exhibitions and established in a short time, especially in a city museum felt lacking in the capital Nicosia."
