Informing about "First and Emergency Aid" at CIU
The "3.Resuscitation and Trauma Symposium“ was hosted by the Faculty of Health Sciences in cooperation with the Turkish Cypriot and Turkey Paramedic Association at Cyprus International University (CIU).
At the Symposium organized by the contributions of the Vocational School, the speakers were Gürkan Özel, The President of the Paramedic Association, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Mehmet Ergin, Dr. Emel Erkuş Sirkeci, Dr. Uğur Özkula, Nurse Dağhan Aylanç, Paramedic Lecturer Tarık Balcı, and Prof. Dr. Feray Gökdoğan, the Dean of the Health Sciences Faculty. Gökdoğan said that the value of basic and advanced life support practices in primary and emergency assistance is determined by the continuity and uncomplicated outcome of life. Prof. Dr. Gökdoğan added that it is essential that paramedics should be based on guidelines in their ability to skilfully master knowledge and skills for touching life and she stated that the studies carried out in this direction will also make a significant contribution to the students’ studies.
Tarık Balcı, Paramedic Lecturer and officer from the Paramedic Association, İstanbul indicated that they have two main objectives and said these are about revitalizing trauma and resuscitation. Balcı drew attention on the importance of informing health students about the first and emergency areas and it will be more useful to do practice besides the descriptions in the manual and he noted in this way they aim to train professional individuals in the field by creating a skill station.
Prof. Dr. Mehmet Ergin talked about the importance of the first aid and first intervention by mentioning about the types of critical trauma and trauma types in the symposium. Students from the Paramedic Department and health workers in the TRNC showed a great interest to the symposium held at the Centre for Education and Humanities, CIU.
