Information Conference on Sexually Transmitted Diseases was organized at CIU
The Library Club affiliated with the Student Development and Counseling Center (SDCC) of Cyprus International University (CIU) organized a conference entitled: “Information on Sexually Transmitted Diseases”.
Ahmet Öğüt, an expert nurse and board member of Cyprus Turkish Nurses and Midwives Association, said the purpose of these trainings in the community is to create awareness and complete missing information. Such trainings were not organized only for the students, as they provide training throughout the whole island. He talked out the importance of knowing risky conditions and diseases in this area and the need to inform others about the precautions taken to prevent diseases. They carried out awareness trainings for a healthy sexual life and stated that it was gratifying that participation in such trainings was intense.
Öğüt said, “Gonorrhea, Trichomonas Vaginalis, and Bacterial Vaginozis, are the most common sexual diseases, that can be transmitted sexually or with acupuncture, epilation or blood transferred during a tattoo procedure. Such diseases do not show any symptoms immediately and it’s important to diagnosis these diseases early. Some effective ways to protect yourself from such diseases would be to use condoms, practice monogamy, clean personal belongings, going to a control after a suspicious relationship, and questioning hospital staff whether instruments used are sterile or not. The treatment is very important for the improvement of such diseases and should be done under the supervision of a physician.”
Gülten Sala Lay, the Conference Consultant of the Library Club, presented Ahmet Öğüt with a certificate of appreciation.
