Cyprus International Univeristy (CIU), Director of School of Tourism and Hotel Management Assoc. Prof. Dr. Orhan Uludağ has made important declarations after the start of the tourism season in 2017 in TRNC.

Unable to reach the desired success in the TRNC tourism

Stating that tourism industry is one of the locomotives that exist in the TRNC, Orhan Uludag said the desired success in tourism can not be achieved across the island. Uludağ expressed that environmental, social, cultural, economical and political importance of tourism is not emphasized adequately, so that the desired success can not be achieved.

Expressing that tourism consciousness is not widespread in public as well, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Orhan Uludag, said that this consciousness could be raised through education. Uludağ stated that responsibility has fallen to all stakeholders in this matter and stated that the state and the univeristies should embrace the work, and added that the tourism consciousness can be achieved only through the joint cooperation with the induction approach.

“The growing politics between Turkey and European countrıes will affect tourism this year.”

Explaining that 2016 is the year of stagnation for the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus, Uludag argued that politics, which is escalating between Turkey and some countries of Europe, will significantly affect tourism this year. Emphasizing that it would be beneficial to promote tourism encouragement and incentive programs not only in special interest tourism but also in all tourism branches, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Uludağ said, "I believe that this threshold will be met through appropriate incentive programs both over Turkey and over Larnaca”. Orhan Uludağ said that using Larnaca as an active and productive place would make a better contribution to the tourism of the country. In this context, he shared some of the proposals discussed at the 12th Tourism Education Search Conference.

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Orhan Uludağ, Director of School of Tourism and Hotel Management, stated that among the proposals discussed in the conference Larnaca Airport suggested being used and promoted effectively in all tourism related activities.

Another important factor is that the tourism portfolio and the target tourist profile throughout the island are not clearly revealed. Uludağ expressed that this target portfolio and profile, which are considered as an important part of the action plans, should create and apply absolute functionality as soon as possible. Referring to the importance of all tourism sector employees to participate in the strategies to be determined, Assoc. Dr. Orhan Uludag concluded his words by saying "I hope that Northern Cyprus tourism gets closer to its targets this year".
