Great Success by the University Engineering Faculty Students at CIU

Students from the Computer Engineering Department of Cyprus International University  (CIU) School of Engineering achieved an important success in the Hackathon competition organized by METU TRNC, they took the second place in the competition.

The Chairman of the Department of Computer Engineering Assoc. Dr. Devrim Seral said that it was not a coincidence that CIU achieved a significant success in a competition, which was organized for the first time in North Cyprus. He also stated that the main aim of the competition was to program computers in a limited time with crowded teams with such similarities. Assoc. Prof. Dr. Devrim Seral informed that there were a total of 12 teams from 5 universities, participated in the competition with 2 teams from CIU in the competition which was held at METU TRNC. Assoc. Prof. Dr. Seral said that the main theme of the event was based on the "Internet of Objects" and the event lasted for 48 hours. 

Seral also explained that only 6 teams from 12 teams were qualified for a presentation after the given time in the competition, the paticipant from CIU were Yasser El-Kabbout, Abdallah Fahmi- Naser and Philip Kyeswa and the team’s theme was  an automobile guidance system by detecting traffic accidents and this team has achieved to take the second place at the end of the competition.

The Chairman of the Department of Computer Engineering Assoc. Dr. Devrim Seral said that it was not a coincidence that CIU achieved a significant success in a competition and this success will also motivate other students. The students, who took the second place in the competition, are studying at the department of Computer Engineering and Electric and Electronic Engineering and these departments have been accredited by MUDEK, which is the institution of engineering training programs assessment.
