The Dean of the Faculty of Health Sciences did a presentation at the 19th National Medical Nursing Congress
Prof. Dr. Feray Gökdoğan, the Dean of the Faculty of Health Sciences, Cyprus International University (CIU) did a presentation at the 19th National Medical Nursing Congress.
Prof. Dr. Feray Gökdoğan, The Dean of the Faculty of Health Sciences said the congress took place at Belek in Antalya and she did a presentation on "Care Problems of the Elderly Living in Empty Nest" at the 19th National Medical Nursing Congress."
Prof. Dr. Feray Gökdoğan emphasized that in recent years, elderly people live alone or with their partners due to the economic developments in the world and migration to cities. She said that there is an increase in the number of elderly people, who live in empty nursing homes, where they cannot get help from their children. Prof. Dr. Gökdoğan recorded that the elderly population in the world and in Turkey has increased rapidly and 76.5% of the elderly living alone are women. Prof. Dr. Gökdoğan emphasized that elderly people may feel alone, helpless and unsupportive. Prof. Dr. Gökdoğan expressed that the "empty home" families increased rapidly with the aging of the society and the health services in the society constitute the target group in this context.
