Cyprus and Mediterranean Studies Center of CIU organized a Seminar on “The Legend of the Liberal World Order”
The Cyprus and Mediterranean Studies Center (CYPMED) of Cyprus International University (CIU) and the International Relations Department organized a seminar titled “The Legend of the Liberal World Order”.
At the seminar given by Prof. Dr. Carlo Masala, a German Political Scientist, was invited to the the island as a guest of CYPMED. Masala explained the liberal world order to students in the International Relations Department. Prof. Dr. Masala said “The Liberal World Order” was founded after the Second World War without having a global nature. Masala put emphasis on that “The Liberal World Order” does not work according to the basic principles of liberalism. He explained, “In addition to nationalism and populism increasing in the United States, China's rapid rise makes the current order unsustainable.”
The seminar was attended by many faculty members, bachelors, masters and Ph.D students, which ended with a question and answer session.
Who is Prof. Dr. Carlo Masala?
Prof. Dr. Masala has been a member of the Armed Forces University operated by the German Ministry of Defence in Munich since 2007. Prior to this, Prof. Masala spent 4 years at the NATO Defense College in Rome, where he was an Assistant Director of the Research Advisory and Research Department. He carries out studies on international relations theories, security policies, transatlantic relations and security issues in the Mediterranean.
Assoc. Prof. Dr. Sertaç Sonan, the Director of the Center, said he was very pleased with the participation of the seminar. Sonan also stated that there is a demand from the students to increase similar activities and that CYPMED will continue such activities with the support of the university administration.
