Current Treatment Approaches in Prostate Cancer Discussed at CIU
The first and only multidisciplinary team in the field of men's health physiotherapy in Turkey and the TRNC, from the Physiotherapy and Rehabilitation Department of the Faculty of Health Sciences, Cyprus International University (CIU), held a panel on "The Current Treatment of Prostate Cancer."
Prof. Dr. Halil Nadiri, Rector of CIU, gave good news in the opening of the event, announcing that the Faculty of Medicine and Faculty of Dentistry have been approved by the Ministry of Education and education will start in the 2019-2020 Academic Year.
Prof. Dr. Ali Ulvi Önder, a Urology Specialist, who made a speech at the event, said prostate cancer is caused by red meat consumption, the use of animal fats, and genetic factors. Önder laid emphasis on the importance of early diagnosis.
Prof. Dr. Sedat Tellaloğlu, a Urology Specialist, said in prostate cancer a surgical method is preferred over radioactive therapy in permanent treatment, stating that the surgery may have negative effects on the nervous system.
Batuhan Dericioğlu, a Lecturer of the Department of Physiotherapy and Rehabilitation of CIU, said a urological physiotherapy accelerates the process of the treatment. Dericioğlu stated that the muscle structures related to erectile dysfunction are strengthened by physiotherapy methods after prostate surgery and he said that in this way, effective and early results can be obtained.
