CIU School of Physical Education and Sports is a Centre of an Attraction of Newly Registered Students

The Director of the School of Physical Education and Sports of the Cyprus International University (CIU) Prof. Dr. Fikri Eralp, gave information about the academic year 2017 - 2018.

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Fikri Eralp, the Director of the School of Physical Education and Sports, mentioned that with the opening of Coaching Education and Recreation Departments in 2017 - 2018 Academic Year, the number of the departments of the School of Physical Education and Sports has now become 4. The director Assoc. Prof. Dr. Fikri Eralp stated that this development within one year is gratifying. Eralp, "The approval of the new departments of the school by the higher education system by the Council of Higher Education is the natural result of our university’s reputation. The sufficiency of our facilities and physical conditions is an important factor at reaching this number of departments." Assoc. Prof. Dr. Fikri Eralp noted that the number of departments in the CIU School of Physical Education and Sports programs was reached in two years and this was an important step between Turkey and the universities of North Cyprus. Eralp emphasized that there is a quota given for all the Departments of Physical Education and Sports by the  Turkish Republic.

The Director Assoc. Prof. Dr. Fikri Eralp stated that this development shows satisfaction within a year.

The Director Assoc. Prof. Dr. Fikri Eralp stated that in its second year the Physical Education and Vocational School program has reached seventy percent with respect to the occupancy rate. Eralp emphasized that 2017-2018 Fall Semester started with four departments. In order to motivate newly enrolled students and help them to adapt, Eralp stated that the first week of training and education started as student acceptance, course selection and counselling services. He told that onwards next week the courses will start.

The director of the School of Physical Education and Sports of the CIU Assoc. Prof. Dr. Fikri Eralp mentioned to provide a good and quality education in Physical Education and Vocational School programs, certain qualities are considered. Eralp explained that, with the universities of the CIU School of Physical Education and Sports and the multi-purpose gymnasium in the CIU Arena, semi-olympic 8 paved training pool, fitness room, classrooms and academic staff linked to Turkey, they intend to have an education under one roof.

 

Eralp, The Director of the School of Physical Education and Sports, gave information about sector life of the students who study physical education and sports education. Eralp emphasized that students, who graduate from the CIU Physical Education and Vocational School programs, can also be employed as teachers by the Ministry of National Education of Turkey and Northern Cyprus. In addition, Eralp underlined that students, who are trained in the Coaching Department, may have a third-level coaching certificate at the end of four years study mainly due to specialization starting in the third grade. Eralp also stated that those, who graduated from the Recreation Department, can take the external coaching certificate, with courses to be opened in the school. In addition, Fikri Eralp also stated that they can be coaches and they can work in various programs such as sports tourism, disabled people and old people especially in fitness field which industry is in need. Eralp also stated that the students of the Recreation Department could be employed as teachers within the period of four years providing that the pedagogical formation certificate is given for a twenty-one credit score.

The Director Assoc. Prof. Dr. Fikri Eralp emphasized that sports management graduates will also be able to take coaching credentials from coaching training courses they will attend as well as students in the Recreation Department. Emphasizing that sport management graduates can be managers in the local authorities, tourism, sports fairs, sporting product marketing, public and private sectors that the sports sector needs, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Fikri Eralp likewise said that at the end of four years, as recreation department graduates, they would be able to teach physical education by giving pedagogical formation lessons.

We aim to make additional contributions to their careers or CVs by bringing together students from all four departments of the CIU School of Physical Education and Sports, together with leading figures from industry, apart from the curriculum they have taken.

In addition, Eralp said, "We aim to prepare certificate programs and courses in areas other than the ones that our students need during the semester and prepare them for the sector."
