CIU organised a Technical Visit for Bülent Ecevit Anatolian High School Students
Cyprus International University (CIU) hosted Bülent Ecevit Anatolian High School (BEAL) students.
BEAL students were informed about the purpose and capacities of the analytical devices by attending the technical tours of the Science and Technology Centre in the university.
Assist. Prof. Dr. Mehmet Şenol, Lecturer of the Faculty of Engineering gave an explanation about the Science and Technology Centre, which is projected by the Centre for Sustainable Energy Research (BIPV), an integrated solar energy system built by the building. Şenol stated that panels with the thin film technology were used on the southern front of the Centre and 20kWp solar energy installation was provided by these panels and this was done for the first time in the TRNC by the CIU.
Mehmet Şenol, who informed the students that they had the opportunity to inspect the solar energy system at 1.1 MWp in four different locations within the CIU campus, also gave information about the PV plant to the students about parking and land installations. Şenol stated that the annual power generation of the PV plant corresponds to annual electricity consumption of approximately 350 households and the university meets 35% of the annual electrical energy needs.
Assist. Prof. Dr. Ertan Akün, Lecturer of the Faculty of Engineering made explanations about the use and purpose of the environmental and genetic laboratories for BEAL 11th grade students in Science and Technology Centre.
Akün said that the research to slow the cancer is supported by living cells by the studies done at, Biotechnology Research Centre and he stated that the university has been keeping the education in this field at the top level.
