Prof. Dr. Muhittin Tuş, The Dean of the Faculty of Education, Cyprus International University issued a message on the occasion of October 29th Republic Day.
Prof. Dr. Muhittin Tuş mentioned that the Turkish community was involved in many battles at the beginning of the last century and the society is going through difficult days. Prof. Dr. Tuş stressed that Turkish society witnessed the Balkan Wars in the first place, then Tripoli War, World War I and War of Independence and he also noted that these wars lasted more than ten years. The Dean Prof. Dr. Muhittin Tuş expressed that the loss of land due to wars was experienced, and that millions of martyrs were given.
Prof. Dr. Muhittin Tuş stated that one person objected to this bad progress in the country who was Mustafa Kemal. He said "When the British invaded İstanbul, "They went as they came!" and he put the Turkish nation into action.
Prof. Dr. Tuş grabbed attention to the point that Mustafa Kemal encouraged the Turkish nation and put them into the action and he added that in this way the national struggle was started from Samsun. Prof. Dr. Tuş added that during the War of Independence, the Assembly also gave all the powers to Mustafa Kemal in order to make faster and more effective decisions.
Prof. Dr. Muhittin Tuş pointed out that self-governing is the right of the nation and he underlined that Mustafa Kemal's statement "the government is the nation and the nation is the government".
Prof. Dr. Muhittin Tuş expressed that there was a nation that was derived from the tradition of reign for the last 600 years. Prof. Dr. Muhittin Tuş said "Mustafa Kemal declared the Republic in the Parliament on October 29th, 1923 even though most of its intellectuals were not even aware of the existence of the Republic, or let aside that the value of the Republic was not even known at that time.
Prof. Dr. Tuş underlined that such a development has created some natural consequences and either in that period or in later periods there were people who were longing secret-evident "sultanate" aspirations. Prof. Dr. Tuş said that "The value of the Republic can only be understood in its absence. There was a group of elite who were disturbed not only by Mustafa Kemal's gift, but also by the fact that the state administration was given the "Nation" and that the right to govern the state belongs to the whole nation. Prof. Dr. Muhittin Tuş informed that as the nation, the state director declared that the decision about the society would be given by the members of the society again and that the natural rights should be taken and the meaning of the Republic should be understood.
Prof. Dr. Muhittin Tuş, The Dean of the Faculty of Education stated that the Republic is a management style suitable for the character of the Turkish Nation; he reminded that Mustafa Kemal’s saying that "My harlot body will surely be one day soil. But the Republic of Turkey will live forever ".
Prof. Dr. Muhittin Tuş, The Dean of the Education Faculty said that we remember with respect, mercy and gratitude all our saint martyrs and veterans, especially Gazi Mustafa Kemal Atatürk at the beginning, and I congratulate October 29th Republic Day with sincere wishes ".
