CIU Lecturer emphasized the importance of Women’s Rights Day
Lecturers of Faculty of Fine Arts, Design and Architecture of Cyprus International University (CIU), Asst. Prof. Ayşe Öztürk and Lecturer Vildan Açan, emphasized the importance of Women’s Rights Day with their joint speech.
First 17 Women in Turkish Parliament
Touching upon the impact of Mustafa Kemal Atatürk’s, the founder of the Republic of Turkey, reforms on women’s suffrage on 5 December 1934, Asst. Prof. Ayşe Öztürk and Lecturer Vildan Açan reminded that after the recognition of women’s rights to vote and be elected 17 women got into the Turkish Parliament for the first time in history on 8 February 1935.
Öztürk and Açan, who are lecturers, have pointed out that this number that has been expected to increase continually, is decreasing day by day and they also stated that according to data collected by Turkish Economy Politics Research Foundation in August 2012, in Turkey , despite the fact that out of 37 million 191 thousand women 27 million 594 thousand women are able to work, only 7 million 300 thousand are working. On the other hand, Assisstant Proffessor Ayşe Öztürk and lecturer Vildan Açan have emphasized that according to the data from 2014 Gender Inequality Index of United Nations Development Program, Turkey has the 71st place out of 155 countries and that it is probable to encounter data that supports the fact that Turkish women have played the second fiddle.
Öztürk and Açan, who underlined that a strong and egalitarian society can be achieved when it is accepted that every individual is a part of the society, said that in such societies productivity, peace and cooperation can exist.
Our first priority is to stand against all kinds of sex oriented perception.
Faculty of Fine Arts, Design and Architecture instructor Ayşe Öztürk and Vildan Acan drew attention to the point that Turkish women has been provided with some rights in terms of social equality but they pointed out that it is very engrossing that they take part in very little in social communion.
They emphasized that in order to have strong and prosperity society women should possess the equal condition as well as men and this will be a crucial step to become better.
As soon as these conditions have been provided, there would be happier and healthier society.

By this way we will be a society that can claim to the principle of equality, work together, produce and share our life and then on 5th of December, international women right day, it will be a day that we will talk how we succeed all of these. It will be possible to reach healthy and happy Turkey.
