CIU hosted Orhan Deligöz, AKP Erzurum Member of Parliament
Orhan Deligöz, AKP Erzurum Member of Parliament was hosted by the Environmental Engineering Club, Cyprus International University at a seminar on “Where there is Water, There is Life.”
Orhan Deligöz, AKP Erzurum Member of Parliament said that the most effective drink that nature has offered to people is water and there is life wherever there is water. Deligöz, Parliament Member referred to the water brought to the TRNC from Turkey and said the water needs of the TRNC will all be met by 2050 and 38 million m3 will be used as drinking water and 37 million m3 will be used for agricultural irrigation purposes. Orhan Deligöz pointed out that it will not only provide clean water for the TRNC citizens but also it will provide an important increase in income due to the irrigated agriculture.
Prof. Dr. Halil Nadiri, CIU Rector said water is one of the most indispensable elements for human beings and other living things. Nadiri drew attention how the water coming from Turkey to the TRNC should be used more effectively and he explained that it is a priority to make the necessary arrangements.
Prof. Dr. Halil Nadiri said “I would like to point out that as CIU, our duty is not limited only to education and research, it is also our duty to support anybody who will need to benefit from our knowledge along with the vision of contributing to the society and development of the society".
Prof. Dr. Tahir Çelik, The Dean of the Faculty of Engineering stated the importance of the growing water problem of the world and emphasized the importance of accessing to safe water. Çelik therefore emphasized the importance of the need for an integrated water policy.
The event held at the Çevik Uraz Conference Hall ended with the presentation of a plaque to Orhan Deligöz, AKP Erzurum Member of Parliament by Prof. Dr. Halil Nadiri, CIU Rector.
