CIU Academics emphasized the importance of using technology in the learning process of visually impaired individuals

Prof.Dr.Fatoş Silman, The Head of the Department of Educational Sciences, Faculty of Education, Cyprus International University (CIU) said the learning process of visually impaired individuals can be accelerated with the use of technology.

In the joint article published by Prof. Dr. Fatoş Silman, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Hüseyin Yaratan, the Head of the Computer and Instructional Technology Teaching and Assist. Prof. Dr. Tolgay Karanfiller, Lecturer on "A Case Study on Assisted Technologies Used in Teaching-Learning and Managerial Processes for Persons with Visual Impairment in Northern Cyprus", they found out that the use of technology-assisted programs in the learning process of the visually impaired improves their social-emotional interactions.

Prof. Dr. Silman noted that they investigated the technology used at the Cyprus Turkish Visually Impaired Association during the teaching-learning process for the visually impaired individuals and the Association’s managerial processes.

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Yaratan said the rapid technological changes in the digital age made it essential to use technology both for personal and educational reasons and he mentioned that these processes must be followed closely. Yaratan added that to support and accelerate classroom learning processes, technology should be included in educational materials.

Assist. Prof. Dr. Karanfiller pointed out that the use of technology-supported programs in the learning process improves the social-emotional interactions of the visually impaired individuals and he added it helps them participate more in everyday activities.

Karanfiller said technology is commonly used in schools in educational environments and he emphasized that these technologies could also help visually impaired children. Karanfiller drew attention to the fact that visually impaired children can be educated in the normal classroom environment with the integration approach.
