CIU Academic Year Started with 18,000 Students from 106 Different Countries The annual academic year official opening ceremony of the Cyprus International University (CIU), was held on October 13, 2017.
The opening ceremony started with the participation of the Prime Minister Hüseyin Özgürgün, Chairman of the Board of Trustees Mete Boyacı, Rector Prof. Dr. Halil Nadiri, Vice Rectors, Rector Advisor and academic staff.
Cyprus International University, which was established with 3 faculties consisting of 12 undergraduate degree programs and one vocational school with three associate degree programs on 4th February 1997, continues to grow steadily.
In its 20th year CIU, which has 18 thousand students from 106 different countries, has now started the education with 10 faculties and 7 vocational schools with 18 new programs with a total of 143 undergraduate, undergraduate, graduate and doctoral programs continues education.

Prof. Dr. Halil Nadiri, while starting the 2017-2018 academic year, CIU continues to develop by opening 18 new programs in addition to the existing programs. Rector Nadiri mentioned that of the new programs, three are associate degree, six are undergraduate, seven are masters and two are PhD programs.
Prof. Dr. Nadiri expressed that the total number of newly enrolled students in the academic year 2017-2018 is 3940 as of today.
Prof. Dr. Halil Nadiri stated that, “CIU began its academic year with 18,000 students from 106 different countries”. Prof. Dr. Nadiri noted that the Vertical Transfer Exam and the additional placement processes have not yet been completed, Prof. Dr. Nadiri indicated that there is a serious demand to the univeristy in the new academic year. Prof. Dr. Halil Nadiri stated that the number of CIU students is now 18,000 together with nearly 4000 new students that have entered the university in the new academic year. And then he added that the number of academic staff has also increased to a great extent.
The Prime Minister Özgürgün emphasized that 18000 students is an important number.
The TRNC Prime Minister Hüseyin Özgürgün made a presentation on "Recent Developments in Cyprus" at the opening. Özgürgün stated that Cyprus, which is the third largest island of the Mediterranean and hosts many civilizations, is strategically located in a very important position; underlining that the strategic position of taking control of an entire region is also the cause of serious disputes over the years. The TRNC Prime Minister Hüseyin Özgürgün, who emphasized the development and growth of the Cyprus International University, pointed out that 18,000 learners is an important number. Özgürgün stated that he wholeheartedly congratulates the success of Cyprus International University, he expressed his best wishes for the new academic year.
