A CIU Academic made recommendations about Adaptation of Children to School after Vacation
Assoc. Prof. Dr. Çağla Gür, Faculty Member of Preschool Teacher Education, Basic Education Department, Faculty of Education of Cyprus International University (CIU), mentioned the points which should be paid attention to at the start of the New Academic Year, following the vacation period.
Assoc. Prof. Dr. Çağla Gür stated that holidays are a good opportunity to renew the mind and body and she said that it is necessary to take out the children from the holiday mood a couple of days before the opening of the schools to prepare them for the school and the school period emotionally.
Assoc. Prof. Dr. Çağla Gür stated that the shopping for school could be done together with the children, it could be useful to pass in front of the school or it could be useful to chat about the school memories of last year and also it could be beneficial for the children to get together with their old school friends before the school starts.
Gür suggested that parents can make connections between home life and school life. She also said the sleeping order should be changed and she suggested that diet, homework, play, and family hours should be carefully planned.
Assoc. Prof. Dr. Çağla Gür also pointed out the importance of taking measures to eliminate the worries of children if they have any.
Assoc. Prof. Dr. Gür said that enough time would have to be left to get prepared in the morning and she said "It should be ensured that the child has a comfortable amount of time to have breakfast and dress so that the child can go to school in a peaceful way."
Gür also stated that during the week when the schools start, the parents’ programs such as business activities and hospitality should be reorganized to help the child to have order.
Çağla Gür stated that the child should have a certain area in order to place school supplies and lastly she reminded us that children should organize their school bags themselves in the evening.
